Casey Tynan, 28, is an adventurer, entrepreneur, and advocate for athletes overcoming life-altering injuries. Based in South Lake Tahoe, California, he has spent his life pursuing action sports and sharing his passion for the outdoors. As the owner of Lake Tahoe Tours and Rentals, Casey is committed to helping others experience the beauty of nature through adventure. Casey’s dedication to community service began at age 16, when he was named Volunteer of the Year for his work on a local bicycle pump track. Growing up on the East Coast, he raced motocross competitively and enjoyed skateboarding, snowboarding, BMX, mountain biking, and camping. As a business owner—running his own skate shop, landscaping company, and construction company—he supported youth programs, sponsored local sports teams, and helped develop community recreational spaces. His current business continues this mission, supporting charities like S.M.I.L.E.S., The Nature Conservancy, and The Chill Foundation, which helps underprivileged youth experience action sports. On June 23, 2024, Casey’s life changed dramatically. While attempting a backflip at the Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival, he suffered an L1 burst fracture, shattering his vertebra and damaging his spinal cord. Emergency surgery fused his L1 to T12 with eight screws and two plates. Doctors warned he may never walk again, but Casey refused to accept that fate. Despite paralysis, nerve damage, and constant pain, he committed himself to relentless rehabilitation proving that recovery was possible. Casey’s resilience transformed his journey into a mission. He founded the ActivStem Foundation to help others recover from paralysis using advanced therapies. As the first ActivStem recipient, Casey received AngioReGen therapy, successfully restoring function to his paralyzed calf muscles. Now walking again, he is dedicated to helping others experience the same breakthrough. Through ActivStem, Casey is leading efforts to provide grants for athletes who have spent years in wheelchairs, offering them a chance to regain mobility. He envisions expanding his work to include adaptive sports and tours, ensuring that injured athletes and veterans can continue to experience the outdoors. Guided by faith, resilience, and a passion for helping others, Casey believes in the power of “Faith Over Expectations.” His journey is a testament to perseverance, the strength of community, and the belief that recovery is possible.
